Kirstys Little Treasures Bromsgrove

A new website for local Bromsgrove business, Kirsty’s Little Treasures.  Kirsty’s Little Treasures is an independent childcare provider and nursery for children aged 3 months to 5 years based in central Bromsgrove.

Though Kirsty’s Little Treasures already had an existing website it needed to be updated.  The business had developed and changed and the website needed to be brought up to date to reflect the current nursery setting.

The Kirsty’s Little Treasures domain name was already registered to business owners Kirsty and Kyle and there was also an established KLT logo in use on their website, business cards and uniform.  Both of these elements have been retained and are in use on the new and improved KLT website.

Following a brief discussion about requirements we set the ball rolling by providing initial ballpark figures for site design and build along with an outline of the high level scope.  This was based on the information we gathered from KLT Management and also our perception of what we felt a nursery website should contain.

A second meeting was scheduled where more discussion took place around requirements to include design and functionality, estimated price and development timescales.  Also important to Kirsty’s Little Treasures was establishing a partnership with a local web designer who was prepared to get in tune with their business.  The Kirsty’s Little Treasures / Pedleyonline partnership felt like a perfect fit for both parties and after finalising the detailswe agreed to move forward.  Our first job was to help KLT create a great website.  Once launched our focus switches to encouraging and being proactive in assisting Kirsty’s Little Treasures in maintaining and developing the website further.

The purpose of the website was clear:

  • To make resources available for parents e.g. viewable, downloadable documents
  • To provide a communication tool for the management to let parents and carers know what’s happening at Nursery.
  • To provide a sales tool for obtaining new placements

But there was an accompanying design brief…

  • The KLT nursery setting has a Treasure Island / Beach / Sea Creature theme throughout and it was important that this was carried through to the website.
  • It needed to have a certain amount of quirkiness to it!
  • The existing KLT logo was to be retained.
  • Intuitive, mobile friendly naivgation.
  • KLT Management needed to be able to make certain updates themselves, completely independently – though we are always on-hand to complete updates when required.
  • A website with flexibility and lots of capability potential – it may need to grow or change depending on the needs of the business
  • Search engine optimisation was slightly lower down the list of priorities however we did discuss basic SEO with a focus on the local catchment area for the nursery.
New website for KLT

A full and detailed quotation was submitted and accepted and work began with a wireframe and website mockup.  We identified a list of al of the components we needed to collect from Kirsty’s Little Treasures and set up a DropBox for them to easily provide us with the things we needed e.g. photographs, documents etc.

The mock-up website went down well so we proceeded to build on this, fleshing out the website with the content provided, gaining clarification where required.  We used a combination of professional images and actual images of the nursery setting and events to bring the website to life.  Bespoke graphics were created to represent the various rooms, these were stylised shapes for Starfish, Octopus, Turtles, Dolphins and Parrots.

KLTs introduce their team of childcare professionals on the Meet The Team Page and if they can’t convince you to handover your child for some fun times at KLTs then read through the Parent Reviews Page where you will find a number of glowing reviews from parents of children and babies who attend Kirsty’s Little Treasures.

In addition to specific pages dedicated to key subjects, much of the information is also provided in the form of extensive Frequently Asked Questions.  A full  range of Nursery Policy Documents are available, there’s a copy of the latest Ofsted Report to support their ‘Ofsted Good’ rating and the KLT Nursery Prospectus Document can also be found online.

Organisation and availability of content was a big challenge for project that was so content heavy and we managed this through use of contextual menus delivered via a combination of horizontal and left hand menus and also creating a specific Parent Zone which uses colourful panels to direct parents to the area of the site that content key content which is most likely to be useful to them.

Meeting their communication requirements was achieved by implementing a Latest News section which allows KLT Management to add news items to announce events or share news.  News items can contain images and text, can be categorised and archived.  A snippet of the most recent news item is displayed on the home page.  The monthly KLT Newsletter is still produced and distributed but it is also now available to download on the KLT website, back issues are available too.  Links to KLT Facebook page exist on all pages of the website in the website banner and also in the footer alongside a series of Quick Links.  Finally both the Homepage and Parent Zone have a Ticker Tape message which can be updated by Nursery with short but important messages and reminders.

New to Kirsty’s Little Treasure is the provision of an online Learning Journey provided through Capture Education.  This enables Nursery to record and track the development of the children in their care and also to engage parents.  The link to log on to view and contribute to your child’s Learning Journey is available on the KLT Homepage and also in Parent Zone.

Other subjects covered are Starting Nursery, Transition, Curriculum, Activities, Our Nursery Setting, Uniform, Health and Safety, Prices and Funding, Careers

And of course there’s the simple things, ‘what’s my child having for lunch today?’…the KLT website has a copy of the menu too!

Once complete and approved the website was launched in conjunction with a training session to show KLTs how to make updates to the ticker tape, latest news and to update documents. Please visit their new website at
