A delightful new e-commerce website serving the hobbyists of the UK. Clifford’s Model Decals and Spares is an e-commerce store selling waterslide transfers and decals as well as handmade spare parts
for many brands of model toys including Dinky, Corgi, Hornby O Gauge, Matchbox, OO Gauge.
Clifford already had a thriving business on eBay, however, he felt the time was right to create his own, independent selling platform and web presence alongside his eBay business.
Based in Droitwich, Clifford found Pedleyonline via an online search for local Worcestershire based Web Designers and contacted us about his project. We arranged a short meeting to discuss requirements in more detail and provide an estimate for the new website and timeframes. A fascinating business, and a relative niche product, with nostalgic links in terms of the toys of our childhood and also the roots of Clifford’s business. Interestingly, his father spent most of his working life as a spray painter and signwriter at Austin Motor Company, Longbridge.
We began by working on branding and logo ideas, moving on to create a website mock-up for Clifford to approve. We were keen to create a clean, traditional, retro-style looking website that reflected the home-made nature of Clifford’s business. There are lots of products available and these have been categorised into brands and types however there is also a search facility available. Each product has a featured image, further images if required, a product description, price, add to basket, and related products.
Clifford can add, remove, and amend products himself. The initial website build included a certain number of products, with more products added after the website launch date.
The website has been developed using WordPress with eCommerce functionality delivered by Woocommerce. WooCommerce handles all aspects of the transaction including stock management, shipping, customer communication including order confirmation and invoices. It also securely handles the payment process using PayPal which allows customers to pay using a PayPal account or debit or credit card.
Whilst adding products to the shop we were able to help with image editing, cropping, adjusting, and re-sizing product photographs sent over by Clifford.
Clifford’s Dinky-Spares on eBay has an excellent reputation for both its products and the service provided by Clifford and on meeting him it was clear to us that he is both passionate and enthusiastic about his model decals and spares business. We took a selection of customer reviews from feedback left on eBay and added them to the website – there were so many great reviews, we were spoilt for choice!
Since the live date, Clifford has added more and more products to the website and there has been a steady increase in sales.
