| Domain Name - What is it and How do I get it? |
| This is your unique online web address, for example - www.yourbusiness.co.uk - We can arrange and purchase this for you. For a '.co.uk' domain we charge £10 and this gives you ownership of the domain for 2 years. After 2 years you'll get the option to renew the domain for a further 2 years usually at the same price. |
 I've already got a Domain name what do I do? |
| If you've already got your domain you can simply point it to your new website. Again we'll be happy to help with this if you need us to. |
| Hosting - What is hosting? |
| Hosting is where all your files, photos, text and web pages are stored. This is where your Domain name (www.yourbusiness.co.uk) points to. We usually like to look after this side of things for these main reasons - We can make sure everything is working properly, all of the time. We use very reliable secure servers and in the rare event of things going wrong we can fix it quickly. We don't allow 3rd party access to our servers. We offer unlimited (within reason!) e-mail accounts and mailboxes for no extra cost. Also because we host the site we're able to offer hosting at a very competitive fixed price. |
| Hosting - How much does it cost? |
| The current price for 12 months hosting is £30.00 per year (works out at £2.50 a month). Hosting starts only when the site is complete and fully up and running not during design and development. |
| Can I host my site myself or elsewhere? |
| Yes you can host the site elsewhere but we cannot offer the same guarantees for reliability and features as the sites we host ourselves. Also the e-mail, database and contact form functionality we offer may not be included in some hosting packages hosted elsewhere. |
| Email - Can you help with this? |
| If we're supplying your hosting, we'll set up any Email addresses and mailboxes you require. This would typically be something like info@yourbusiness.co.uk. Email is included free as part of our hosting package. |
| How many Email addresses can I have? |
| There is no limit on how many email accounts you can have - within reason! |
| Email - How do I set this up? |
| We'll do most of the work this end to make sure all your mailboxes are in place. If you need to synchronise this with your Outlook Express at home we can guide you through the process. |
| Can I use my existing email address or a free account like Yahoo or Hotmail? |
| Absolutely, we can use any email address on your website. We can also help set up a Yahoo or Hotmail account if you need one. |
| Mail forwarding, what is it? |
| This is where an email sent to one address is forwarded onto another. For example we can set up mail forwarding so that any emails sent to info@yourbusiness.co.uk are automatically forwarded to your existing email address. This is useful if you want to keep using an existing account, but also like to have a more business like email address on your website. We offer unlimited mail forwarding on our hosted websites. |
| Do your Email accounts have Spam Protection? |
| Yes, all our mailboxes have built in Spam Protection. As standard we also encrypt your email addresses on our websites to make it difficult for the information to be harvested by web spiders and search engines. |
| Updating my website - How do I do it? |
| From time to time you may need to update the content of your website, for example - add a new gallery, a new photo to your homepage, update your contact details - put up those prices! This can all be done through e-mail, simply e-mail the changes, photos, text through to us (brian_pedley@yahoo.co.uk) and we'll get it updated. Alternatively you can call through to 07769 677097. |
| Updating my website - How much does it cost? |
| Website updates are charged at £20.00 per hour and by the minute - for instance if you need to change your phone number or e-mail address this would only take a matter of minutes to update so we only charge for the time it takes - for example 15 minutes would cost - £5.00. There is no minimum charge. In all cases we will let you know how much the updates will cost upfront before going ahead with any work. For larger website updates we agree a price up front rather than using an hourly rate. |
| Can I update my website myself? |
| It's not currently possible to update your website yourself. To save time (and money!) on your updates we recommend you send the information via-email or on disk. However we can scan any photos and manually type documents if you need us to. |
| Sending you my information for the website, what do you need? |
| If possible we prefer information, images and text to be supplied electronically either on memory stick, disk or via email. This saves us a lot of time and can keep site building costs down. If we're having to type in pages of text and scan countless photos and documents then this will affect the price. |
| I don't have a computer / don't want to use one, can I still have a website? |
| Absolutely, the great thing about having us build your website is you don't have to go near a computer. Even updating it from time to time can be done by posting us a note or picking up the phone. Documents, photos and text can be supplied to us by post or by hand and we'll get them online. There's no reason a computer needs get in the way of getting your business online! |
| Can I tell how many people are visiting my web site, do you provide web statistics? |
| Yes, there are a number of different ways we can monitor the traffic on your site to see how popular it is. On request we can run reports to see how many people are accessing your site and what pages are being looked at. We can add a hit counter to your home page. Alternative methods are using 3rd party code such as statcounter on your site, this is a free service where you can closely monitor your visitor activity. If this is something that is of interest to you, we can discuss this and include it in your site. |
| Search Engine Optimisation - Are your sites optimised for Search Engines? |
| At the very early stages of the design process we'll discuss optimising your site for Search Engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN. On the most part this is included free of charge and as part of the initial site design. Search Engine Optimisation is essentially making sure your site is visible to Search Engines, making them search engine friendly. When people type in your details into Google we want your site to come up as high as possible in the listings. We'll do our best to include as many keywords, phrases, alt tags, targeted links to your site. Search Engine visibility is paramount to the sucess of your website and business. |
| E-commerce Web Sites - Can you help? |
| Yes! - We now offer simple PayPal type E-commerce websites, examples of which are available in the portfolio section of this site. |
| Paying for the site - When do I pay? |
It depends entirely on the size of the website. On medium to large scale projects we would usually request payment in 3 equal installments. The first installment would be payable when the actual site build begins (not in the initial development stages). The second payment would be required mid-way through the project and lastly the third and final payment would be invoiced on completion of the website when everything is up and running and online to the clients satisfaction. All payments need to be paid within 14 days of invoicing.
On smaller projects under £500 we would usually split the bill in two. Requesting the first half at site build and the remainder on completion. |
| Domain Names, Hosting and Updates - when is payment required? |
| On some projects it's necessary to purchase Domain names some weeks in advance of starting work on the website, in these instances we will invoice up front for these. The amount paid is deducted from the final website invoice. General site updates will be billed seperately, usually on a month to month basis. Hosting is billed once every 12 months - always in advance. We request all payments are made within 14 days. |
